The Tatarnic Family

“Before coming to RMHC-SK I remember our family feeling completely overwhelmed.”

“Before coming to RMHC-SK I remember our family feeling completely overwhelmed. The stress of the unknown with the lead-up to and eventual diagnosis of Rory’s disease had been going on for quite some time.

Our first stay at RMHC-SK was during the holidays. Not the best timing, but walking into the RMHC-SK was nothing short of breathtaking. The building was amazing. Everywhere we turned there were decorations, Christmas trees in every corner, cards and children’s artwork displayed on and around the fireplace mantles, and the most delicious scents of home-baked goodies wafting through the halls. RMHC felt magical as if staying there was for the privileged few, forgetting why we were there in the first place. There were even family passes available for us to visit the Enchanted Forest!

Living and staying at RMHC-SK has been such a rewarding experience. Being a witness to families coming together, sharing their stories and living their lives is quite humbling. What perhaps resonated the most with our family were the staff and volunteers doing their best to make us comfortable, whether that be by serving meals, helping with dishes or just a friendly chat. We are so fortunate to have an RMHC-SK minutes away from the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital. Moving forward in Rory’s journey we are grateful knowing we will be “welcomed home” for our subsequent medical visits.”
