“Staying at RMHC helps me cope with my stress.”
Our first experience with RMHC-SK occurred when I gave birth prematurely to my 26-week-old baby boy at Meadow Lake Hospital. Because of his maturity, he was transported via air ambulance to Saskatoon Hospital and stayed there in the NICU for 75 days, while I stayed at RMHC-SK with the same timeline as my son. In my son’s case, he suffered brain bleeds at stages 3/4 in the right and left brain, which caused permanent cerebral palsy ranging from moderate to severe. The doctor predicted that he might not be able to live a normal life.
Living and staying at RMHC-SK was overwhelming, and I feel comfortable since it’s closer to the hospital during my daily visit to my son. At the same time, I feel sad because I am 3 hours away from my husband and my daughter for the whole duration. Staying at RMHC helps me cope with my stress regarding my doctor’s diagnosis. With RMHC-SK friendly staff and the house being accessible to see my sons anytime, it gave me hope that he would get better soon and be able to come home.
Now that I’ve stayed at RMHC-SK, I would tell others that our family really appreciated the programming that was offered to us. RMHC-SK feels comforting and supportive of myself and my son’s physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and it is indeed keeping families close away from home.
