The Garcia Family

“The house buzzed with hope, providing a haven where dreams could take flight.”

“In a world filled with strength, courage, and hope, we embarked on a remarkable journey alongside our beloved son, Kenji, battling against the mighty foe of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Throughout this arduous journey, the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) became our sanctuary, our haven, and our home for a remarkable 188 days. Let me take you back to those unforgettable moments. As the doors of RMHC opened wide, we were greeted by the warm smiles and kind hearts of the staff. They understood the challenges we faced, and their support became an unwavering pillar of strength for our family. The house wrapped its arms around us, creating a sense of belonging amidst uncertainty. Within the walls of RMHC, we found solace, comfort, and a community like no other. There, stories of resilience and triumph intertwined, providing solace in knowing that we’re not alone on this path. The kindness of strangers became irreplaceable friendships that nurtured our spirit and fostered an unbreakable bond. Every day, as we ventured to the hospital for Kenji’s treatments, we never felt alone. The assistance provided by RMHC made the burden lighter, offering transportation and ensuring that every step of the medical journey was met with ease. The compassion displayed left an indelible mark on our hearts, knowing that someone truly understood the challenges we faced. Back at the RMHC, the walls echoed with laughter and joy, as children from all walks of life found strength and friendship in one another. Kenji, too, formed unbreakable bonds with these incredible warriors who shared his journey. They became his confidantes, his companions, and his inspiration to keep fighting. In the heart of RMHC, shared meals became moments of respite. The aroma of home-cooked meals spread through the house, connecting families from different corners of the world through the universal language of love. These shared experiences became a feast for the soul, nurturing not just the body but also the spirit. Each night as we tucked Kenji into bed in JPCH (and some lucky days with us in RMHC), gazing at the twinkling stars outside the window, RMHC held us both tightly, reminding us that we’re enveloped by love and prayers from across the globe. The house buzzed with hope, providing a haven where dreams could take flight.

Finally, the day arrived when Kenji triumphantly stood tall, having fought with all his might against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. As we bid farewell to the RMHC family, tears of joy mingled with tears of gratitude. The love, care, and support given during our stay became a beacon of resilience that would guide us through the rest of our lives. The story of our 188 days at RMHC will forever be etched in our hearts, a testament to the strength and solidarity that resides within the human spirit. Our journey, marked by love, bravery, and unwavering determination, serves as an inspiration to us all. Even up to this date, RMHC welcomes us to their home whenever Kenji comes to Saskatoon for his routine checkups. We are truly humbled and grateful for all the love we have received and continuously receiving.”
