The Williamson Family

“The journey of a diagnose of Spinal Muscular Atrophy.”

“At one month of age, Mason received a once palliative diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Type 1. With the Neurology team being based out of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, this meant travelling hundreds of kilometers from home to receive life-saving treatment.

Not only has Ronald McDonald House served as a home away from home during this time of uncertainty, it has also become a welcomed destination for ongoing check-ups while bringing a sense of calm and familiarity with unplanned admittances.

The wrap-around care our family receives at RMHSK is unlike any other service we have experienced. While we have known about and supported this Charity for many years, we never truly appreciated its impact until we found ourselves at their front door!

From a warm and welcoming environment, to hot coffee, freshly baked treats and delicious home for dinner meals, to Mason’s big sister’s highlight, the play spaces, there is something for everyone at the House.

Thanks to the support of the community, we have lived the benefit of Keeping Families Close through staying at Ronald McDonald House Saskatoon. Having a child with medical complexities we are used to one more thing being added to our plate – one more specialist, another diagnosis, additional appointments! Knowing RMHSK exists actually means one less thing to worry about, and we wouldn’t be able to say that without your support!”
