As a member of the Baking Team, you play a significant role in creating a “home away from home” experience for all the families who stay at Ronald McDonald House. Food nourishes both the body and the soul and we are grateful that you are willing to serve in this way. The volunteer baker works under the direction of the Food Programs Coordinator and the Food Programs Assistant. We value teamwork and collaboration and we are grateful that you are a part of the Ronald McDonald House Team!
Qualifications:
- Ability to deal with the public in a warm and friendly manner
- Comfortable in the kitchen
- Initiative – Comfortable working independently and solving problems
- Willing to share your time and energy
- Possess qualities of friendliness, dependability, tact and flexibility
- Willingness to take a Food Safe Course (provided through RMHC-SK)
- Able to pass a background check
Responsibilities:
- Commit to a weekly schedule
- Adhere to all RMHC-SK Protocols, Procedures & Policies
- Check in at the Volunteer Room at the beginning of shift to check for important updates and information.
- Always wear your nametag for every shift
- Check in with Food Programs Coordinator and/or Food Programs Assistant on site for specific direction for your shift.
- Able to bake large batches of muffins, loaves and cookies as directed by the Food Program Coordinator or Food Programs Assistant.
- Follow all Food Safe Course guidelines
- Ensure the kitchen area is clean, tidy, adequately stocked, properly cleaned, and sanitized when baking is complete.
- Advise the Food Program Coordinator or Food Programs Assistant if ingredients are running low so they can be added to the grocery list.
- Encourage families to help themselves
Training and Support
- General orientation and training will be provided
- Role specific training will be provided
- Continuing training and support will be offered to all volunteers.
Time Commitment:
- 1 shift per week for a commitment of 8 months to a year
- Or a bi-weekly shift when applicable
- Shift times vary from 2 – 4 hours depending on opportunity
Parking:
We recognize that parking is a challenge in our community. We would recommend, if possible, that you walk, bike, bus, or get dropped off. If you must drive, we request the following:
- For visits to the House 2 hours or less, please park on University Drive west of Clarence Ave.
- For visits two hours or longer, park in the ONE volunteer parking space in the lot (if open). Alternatively, you can park in a family parking space in the lot if there is one available. If you are parking in the lot, you MUST register with the front desk to ensure we are able to contact you while on your volunteer shift in case of needing to move your vehicle for emergency. Unregistered vehicles may be towed.
