As a member of the Breakfast Program Team, you play a significant role in creating a home-like environment for all the families who stay at Ronald McDonald House. Food nourishes both the body and the soul and we are grateful that you are willing to serve in this way. The Breakfast Volunteer role works under the direction of the Food Programs Coordinator and the Food Programs Assistant. Qualifications:
- Ability to deal with the public in a warm and friendly manner
- Comfortable in the kitchen
- Initiative – Comfortable working independently and solving problems
- Willing to share your time and energy
- Possess qualities of friendliness, dependability, tact and flexibility
- Willingness to take a Food Safe Course (provided through Ronald McDonald House)
- Able to pass a background check
Responsibilities:
- Commit to a weekly schedule
- Adhere to all RMHC-SK Protocols, Procedures & Policies
- Check in at the Volunteer Check-In Station at the beginning of your shift to check for important updates and information.
- Always wear your nametag for every shift
- Check in with Food Programs Coordinator and/or Food Programs Assistant on site for specific shift updates
- Assist with cooking and buffet set up as needed
- Helping prep lunches with our Lunch Program – as needed
- Set out all breakfast items as directed by our Food Programs Team
- Keep count of guests who participate in breakfast
- Ensure the breakfast area remains clean, tidy, adequately stocked and properly cleaned up and sanitized when breakfast is complete
- Replenish breakfast items as needed
- Serve families breakfast and assist with to go orders
- Assist with tasks such as individually wrapping baking, prep lunch bags for use, wrap cutlery, prep veggie snack bags, etc.
- Ensure coffee station is stocked at all times and coffee is always ready
- Sinks are clear of dishes and dishwashers are emptied, dishes put away and ready for family use
- Ensure family kitchen space is clean, sanitized, organized and all items are refilled
- Assist with grocery and milk delivery when required
Training and Support
- General orientation and training will be provided
- Role specific training will be provided
- Continuing training and support will be offered to all volunteers.
Time Commitment:
- 1 shift per week for a commitment of 8 months to a year
- Or a bi-weekly shift when applicable
- Shift times vary from 2 – 4 hours depending on opportunity
Parking:
We recognize that parking is a challenge in our community. We would recommend, if possible, that you walk, bike, bus, or get dropped off. If you must drive, we request the following:
- For visits to the House 2 hours or less, please park on University Drive west of Clarence Ave.
- For visits two hours or longer, park in the ONE volunteer parking space in the lot (if open). Alternatively, you can park in a family parking space in the lot if there is one available. If you are parking in the lot, you MUST register with the front desk to ensure we are able to contact you while on your volunteer shift in case of needing to move your vehicle for emergency. Unregistered vehicles may be towed.
