Lunch Program Volunteer

As a member of the Lunch Program Team, you play a significant role in creating a home-like environment for all the families who stay at Ronald McDonald House. Under the direction of the Food Programs Coordinator and Food Programs Assistants, you will assist with the preparation of nutrition-packed meals and snacks that are provided for families within the House and at JPCH, Alvin Buckwold Centre and Dube Centre. Qualifications:

  • Ability to deal with the public in a warm and friendly manner
  • Comfortable in the kitchen
  • Initiative – Comfortable working independently and solving problems
  • Willing to share your time and energy
  • Possess qualities of friendliness, dependability, tact and flexibility
  • Willingness to take a Food Safe Course (provided through RMHC-SK)
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Light Lifting required

Responsibilities: 

Duties included but not limited to:

  • Commit to a weekly schedule 
  • Adhere to all RMHC-SK Protocols Procedures & Policies
  • Check in at the Volunteer Room at the beginning of your shift to check for important updates and information. 
  • Always wear your nametag for every shift
  • Follow all Food Safe Course guidelines
  • Help food programs assistants with cookie, baked good packaging. 
  • Distribute lunch items among the bags accordingly to the menu.
  • Mark bags and bundling them together for their correspondent delivery location (NICU, PIPD, PICU, EMERGENCY, DUBE and Alvin B.)
  • Stamp the date on the bags going out for delivery.
  • Help placing sticker on the paper bags.
  • Ensure the kitchen area is clean, tidy, adequately stocked, properly cleaned and sanitized when lunch preparation is complete.
  • Advise the Food Program Coordinator or Food Programs Assistant if ingredients are running low 
  • Ensure coffee station is stocked, cleaned, sanitized and organized

Training and Support 

  • General orientation and training will be provided 
  • Role specific training will be provided
  • Continuing training and support will be offered to all volunteers.

Time Commitment:

  • 1 weekly shift of 3 hours per week for a commitment of 8 months to a year

Parking: 

We recognize that parking is a challenge in our community. We would recommend, if possible, that you walk, bike, bus, or get dropped off. If you must drive, we request the following:

  • For visits to the House 2 hours or less, please park on University Drive west of Clarence Ave.

For visits two hours or longer, park in the ONE volunteer parking space in the lot (if open). Alternatively, you can park in a family parking space in the lot if there is one available. If you are parking in the lot, you MUST register with the front desk to ensure we are able to contact you while on your volunteer shift in case of needing to move your vehicle for emergency. Unregistered vehicles may be towed.
